• Had a 2 day job in Kingman AZ so instead of driving I flew Gregs Tomahawk N9916T there monday am then back Tuesday late afternoon, Used iPad with foreflight and Air Nav Pro for flight, and MotionX with Satellite to Navigate around the Taxi ways at KIGM.

• Thursday I met with Bob and we went up in his Piper Cherokee N779LK to get me checked out in it so I can start flying it when I want and it’s available. We flew some maneuvers, slow flight, and pattern work, Bob said he was very comfortable with me flying his plane. At $35 hr dry it is slight cheaper than the Tomahawk which is $50 hr dry but only burns about 5gal hour. Bob and I had so much fun flying together that we went up again on Friday to do some pattern work.I had some issues with my Lightspeed headset in the Cherokee. Bought an adapter for Stero to Mono at Radio Shack and ….

Miscellaneous show notes:

Some of the news in this episode has already passed. We apologize. Nate's behind on editing. We've given him twenty lashes with a wet noodle.

We hope the participants in the Collegiate Flying competition did great at KBJC in October (Go Metro Roadrunners!), and we're catching up on getting these out on time!

Tech notes:

Something was wrong with Nate's mic level, and it added white noise whenever it was live. I've fixed it. Apologies. Also we experienced a very strange phenomenon on Skype that you can hear in Episodes 24 and 25... Zyola's audio was delayed both directions. If it sounds like we're talking over each other sometimes, we are, but Zyola couldn't hear us until about 10 seconds later. It creates some awkward-sounding back and forth at times. The pauses aren't Z's fault. It's Skype. And it's strange. - Nate

Chatting with Friends - Episode 24

We begin a discussion about LSAs, Military/Restricted Airspace, and Flight Following and even a bit about iPads with Stuart Stevenson (@PilotStu), Robert Cigliano (@RobertCigliano), and Darren Storer (@Shotgun15e) which will be released over multiple episodes.

Apologies for the audio quality -- it was 100% my fault [Nate: DenverPilot, that is!]. I had the portable recorder set to the completely wrong mode (highly compressed MP3 format). I've done what I could to clean it up, but I don't think any of our feelings would be too hurt if you hit "skip" and move on to Episode 21!

MHF Hosts: Nate, Zyola, Doug, Mike

Editor's Note: I managed to call Jack Hodgson from the UCAP podcast a whole new name, 2+ hours of audio with serious Skype problems gets chopped down to about an hour after all the editing nightmares (thus the episode name!), and we apologize for how bad Zyola's audio sounds in this episode -- Skype was seriously having a bad hair day.

Another note - 79M flies at 45 knots, not 35! I knew this flying her, but said 35 in the recording. Sigh...

Nate put out a Tweet/Facebook posting recently offering to take anyone for a ride in 79M who wanted to do it in the local area. A number of folks have responded and now he's trying to figure out how to schedule them all in! We should all do this when we can... many people are out there who've never been up in a light aircraft who would really enjoy the experience, and simply have no idea that a Private Pilot can take them up, anytime! Recommend that you create a "passenger checklist" for them, something to send them ahead of time, and a "safety card"... just like the airlines, for your airplane. Keep it safe, keep it legal (You ARE current to fly passengers, aren't you? Have you done your appropriate number of takeoffs/landings and do you feel like your skills are at least to Private Pilot PTS standards? Are you willing to cancel if you don't like the outcome of an IMSAFE checklist?)... and go fly some folks around!

    - Everyone agrees we all have/want Spin Training in OUR personal training, whether its required or not.

Episode 1 is here!

Listen to Nate, Mike, Doug, and Zyola introduce themselves as… The Mile High Flyers!

Enjoy,

Nate (DenverPilot)

So some show notes:

- Nate’s cheesy musical intro (we’re definitely open to changing this - any amazing musicians out there?).

- Nate’s Intro

I mention “former” service in the Civil Air Patrol. As of this posting, I’ve rejoined CAP, and the paperwork just came through today. Doug also joined and we’ll be sharing whatever stories we can from our CAP adventures. If you’re interested, we’ll be over at the Black Sheep Senior Squadron, Colorado Wing.

- Mike’s Intro

Mike is amazing! He recorded this intro from a CRUISE SHIP on his HONEYMOON! Holy cow! Mike is also our intrepid graphic artist who created our first (possibly the first of many?) MHF logo! Thanks Mike!

- Doug’s Intro

Doug is still in shock he’s a host on an Aviation podcast! I was going to peel out some of his mistakes in the original audio file, and use them as out-takes, but I only had out-takes from myself and Doug, and that just didn’t seem fair for Podcast #1.

- Zyola’s Intro (our GIRL POWER! Yay!)

“Z” already has her nickname. I don’t know if it qualifies as a callsign yet, but it’s starting to stick! When I first went hunting for folks to be part of the MHF team, I realized that we need more women pilots in the Aviation Podcasting world, and asked/begged “Z” to join us! Thank you Z!

Production notes:

Audio quality (or lack thereof) is 100% MY FAULT, if you don’t like it! I know the audio isn’t perfect from Z’s recording, and with a self-imposed deadline looming, and pressure from the Twittersphere, I decided it was best to just “SHIP IT!”… it’s Podcast #1… it doesn’t have to be perfect! It’s CONTENT, and we’ll be making more!

And after listening to it, I made at least two serious editing mistakes in my own audio! HA! There’s your out-takes! OOOOOPS!
